Tourism is booming in Maldives after Covid pandemic

According to the information provided by the Maldives Tourism Ministry that country welcomed 1.6 million tourists in 2022. This marks the 2nd highest year of tourist arrival into the country. The Maldives welcomed highest tourist arrival in 2019 with 1.7 million tourist. Right after the sucess it was Covid19 pandemic that hit all tourist destinations across the globe. Despite the harsh pandemic and economic conditions Maldives received 555494 tourists in 2020. Following year it increased rapidly to 1.3 million and it has been crowing ever since.

Tourism high season starts in November and lasts till May. Traditionally the summer months of June and July were considered low season but nowadays the tourist arrival lowers by only 10%. Hence, many people regard Maldives as a popular destination all year round. Some countries of the world enjoy 11 different weather conditons. Guesthouses were introduced to Maldives in the last 6 years and its bed capacity has been growing ever since. Today the country has 880 guesthouses with a total bed capacity of 156642. New resorts opened in the recent years, bringing the count to 171 resorts in total. As of today there 59,641 tourist beds in Maldives.
